The Rain Cycle – Shared Writing Year 5-6: (explanation writing)

posted in: Book Resources 0

This is a launch that I undertook with a class of Year 5-6 students.  It has been filmed to illustrate the main steps of a writing launch that I deem to be important in getting students engaged and motivated in a writing topic and task and moving them clearly into the task.  The class I am working with is made up of 26 students who range from very able to struggling writers.  All students had been given permission by their parents/caregivers to participate in the filming.

“The Rain Cycle” – Purpose:

As you look at the video, you should reflect on the content of Chapter 8 of Building Young Writers: Engaging and Motivating Year 4-8 Students in Writing: Timetabling and Organising an Instructional Writing Programme: The Launch (pages 76-84).  The lesson has been filmed to illustrate the main points made about writing launches in this chapter.
